6 best extraordinary experiences around the Isle of Skye
Thursday September 26th 2019
Are you looking for something a little different to do on your holiday to Skye? We’ve come up with a list of six extraordinary experiences that are available to book and will steer you off the usual tourist trail.
Go to St Kilda
The archipelago of St Kilda is the remotest part of the British Isles and its incredible cliffs, sea stacks, wildlife and rich history make it unique to any other place in the world. With around 1 million seabirds it forms the most important seabird breeding station in north-west Europe. The islands are home to Puffin, Fulmar, Gannet, Shearwater, Petrel, Kittiwake and Shags.
You can go on a day trip, 5 day photography holidays, book a private tour or just camp independently. A trip with Go to St Kilda really is a once in a lifetime experience. Find more information at https://www.gotostkilda.co.uk.
Definitely a great choice if you want to pump a little adrenaline into your veins! Choose from wide range of activities including coasteering, canyoning, climbing, ridge traversing, activities for the whole family and much more. Their experienced friendly guides guarantee an unforgettable experience. Learn more at http://www.skyeadventure.co.uk/.
Whatever outdoor activity with this friendly local guide you choose – whether it’s fishing, foraging, deer stalking or a wild walk – you’re guaranteed first class service. Dress warmly and go on an unforgettable wilderness adventure to create memories that will last a lifetime. Activities for families available as well! Find more at https://www.skyeghillie.com/.
Perfect afternoon for all gin lovers! Create and take home your own unique gin. The Wilson Brothers will guide you through the process of selecting botanicals to bottling and labelling your own miniature copper pot still. Find more information and availability here https://www.isleofskyedistillers.com/gin-school/.
Rent a bike
Explore the north of the island on two wheels instead of four and cycle riverside on the inland road from Monkstadt to Quiraing. Or go the other way around and challenge yourself with a climb up the iconic Quiraing road. Monkstadt House and The Steadings are a perfect starting point as well as The Eyrie. Check out https://www.skyebikeshack.com/ for a bike rental or pick any other place from their recommended ones. Don’t forget to take a helmet as well as a rain jacket and a snack. 🙂
My favourite loop: Monkstadt House & Steadings → inland road to Quiraing → Brogaig → north coastal road back to Monkstadt (or the other side around)
They say that any view is better from horseback, combined with Skye’sspectacular sceneries these horse-riding trips really makes for a perfect family activity! For more information visit http://www.skye-riding.co.uk/index.htm.
